International Garden Exhibition 2027

The International Garden Exhibition (IGA) will take place in North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time in 2027 and invites you to a huge garden festival in the Ruhr metropolis from 27.04.2027. Magnificent shrubs, impressive trees and a blaze of flowers in all colors - visitors to the IGA 2027 can look forward to the perfect art of horticulture.
Topics such as climate adaptation, nutrition, mobility, the circular economy, biodiversity, health and urban self-sufficiency will also be vividly presented in the form of innovative projects, creative collaboration and participatory learning and teaching spaces.
The International Garden Exhibition will also impressively demonstrate how the region, which was characterized by mining and heavy industry for so long, has changed. After the “European Capital of Culture” in 2010 and the “European Green Capital” in 2017, the IGA will now also turn the Ruhr area into the greenest industrial region in the world.

Under the motto “How do we want to live tomorrow?”, there will be three levels with a variety of locations. The “Future Gardens” level are the main venues of the IGA 2027 - these 5 locations are more than just show gardens at an international level. On 194 hectares, they will provide pioneering impetus for sustainable landscape architecture of the future. Existing, wonderful green spaces will be staged anew for the “Our Gardens” level - from historic gardens to industrial heritage parks. Within the third level, called “My Garden”, recreational gardeners in the Ruhr region can make their own contribution to the IGA: environmental initiatives, associations, school gardens, private gardens - they are all motivated to become part of the IGA network.
