Fisu 2025

The second-largest multi-sport event in the world comes to the Ruhr area.

While the UEFA EURO 2024 has just concluded and athletes are still competing for Olympic medals in Paris, the ATLANTIC team is already looking forward to the sporting highlight of next year: From July 16 to 27, 2025, the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin will host the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. Previously known as the "Universiade," around 8,500 athletes from nearly 150 countries—aged up to 25 and enrolled in universities—will compete. The World University Games rank as the largest multi-sport event after the Olympics and Paralympics and will be the biggest sporting event globally in 2025. Following its role as an official team hotel for UEFA EURO 2024, ATLANTIC Essen is proud to serve as one of the official partner hotels for this event. Spectators can look forward to thrilling competitions across sports such as 3x3 (wheelchair) basketball, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, archery, fencing, gymnastics, judo, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, water polo, and diving. These events will take place in host cities Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin. Alongside the sports competitions, a diverse cultural program with family-friendly highlights will offer unforgettable experiences and international encounters. Special Highlight: RUHR GAMES Integration As a unique feature in Bochum's host city program, the RUHR GAMES—usually a standalone event—will be integrated into the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. Given the overlapping target groups of both events, RUHR GAMES will forego competitive sports for this edition. Instead, it will enrich the World University Games with demonstration events in action sports and new Olympic disciplines alongside live music and cultural activities. From July 17 to 20, 2025, visitors can enjoy a vibrant program at Bochum's Jahrhunderthalle featuring cultural highlights, open-air concerts, urban art displays, workshops, and interactive activities. Experience top-tier university sports competition combined with cultural festivities for an unforgettable summer in Germany!
